Are Emotions a Great Teacher?

They unquestionably can be!  However, we do need to be able to tell the difference between an objective experience and a subjective experience. If you blame someone else for how you feel that would be an idea that the other person is the object of your feelings.

Then we have given an independent power to our thought. Of course, our thought does not have an independent nature. The only meaning they have is the meaning we give to them.

To correct this old habit, we merely have to accept it is our thoughts that trigger emotions. We can then be subjective about our experience, e.g. I am feeling angry right now, and having a negative thought about someone.

Then simply feel your feelings, accept your thought and sit with them for a while. They will self-release.

This one simple idea can be tested: become your own scientist and see if this is the case. We can learn to stop being at war with ourselves.
